Natural watercolours and muddy water wash.
Well, it's a parsnip!
I just thought it was a particularly attractive vegetable, freshly picked from the ground that day, and before I used it I wanted to preserve it's beauty (the roots, fibres and leaves twisted round in such an enchanting way).
I used the muddy wash water I'd used to clean the little guy as an initial shading wash for the pencil sketch to give it a connection to the land it came from. It did infact come from a particularly interesting woman's land that I was helping to do a little work for with the youth volunteer group, Blooming Youth. Please check out her website
